Jul. 21–The estate of a man who died as police restrained him during a psychotic episode has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Hartford and five police officers. Luiz Diaz, 42, of Hartford, died in the early morning hours of June 29, 2005, as Hartford police tried to hold him down on Franklin Avenue. After an autopsy, the medical examiner said Diaz’s death was “accidental due to asphyxia due to restraint during a psychotic episode,” an official said Friday.
