Brian (Kato) Kaelin testified behind closed doors today about O. J. Simpson’s activities just before Mr. Simpson’s former wife and her friend were slain. Mr. Kaelin gave the deposition under questioning by lawyers for the families of the victims, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman. The families have filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Mr. Simpson. Mr. Simpson, who has the right to be present at all depositions, also attended the session. A lawyer, Michael Brewer, who represents Mr. Goldman’s mother, said Mr. Simpson was scolded at the session for muttering derogatory comments during Mr. Kaelin’s testimony. Lawyers said they wanted to ask Mr. Kaelin about Mr. Simpson’s activities on June 12, 1994, the day Mrs. Simpson and Mr. Goldman were slain outside her condominium. “It’s a broad-based effort to obtain Mr. Kaelin’s knowledge of Simpson’s demeanor and activities,” said Mr. Brewer, who represents Sharon Rufo in the lawsuit. The questioning was also expected to range over the months before the killings, during which Mr. Kaelin stayed at the homes of both Mrs. Simpson and Mr. Simpson. More : query.nytimes.com |
