The family of a patient who died five years after gastric bypass surgery has reached a $200,000 settlement in their Jackson County wrongful death suit against the woman’s bariatric surgeon. The family claimed an anesthesiologist negligently removed a breathing tube after the surgery, requiring an emergency tracheotomy, and complications with the tracheotomy ultimately led to her death. “This case is significant because it demonstrates how patients can fall through the cracks when there is a lack of communication between the treating surgeon and anesthesia,” said Laurie Del Percio of Independence, attorney for the family. “I hope this will help protect. |
