Wrongful-death suit in Burkheimer homicide case

The parents of Rachel Burkheimer have filed a wrongful-death suit seeking unspecified damages from her accused killers, kidnappers, some of their family members, and the woman who, according to court documents, listened to the 18-year-old victim cry for help and did nothing. Burkheimer, a graduate of Marysville-Pilchuck High School, was killed in September in what prosecutors have characterized as an execution-style murder. Records indicate she was beaten, put in a duffel bag, and driven in a sport-utility vehicle to a remote site, begging for mercy. “While in the back of the SUV, Rachel pled with her captors, begging them to choose a method of killing her that would be quick, so as not to prolong her suffering any more than necessary,” read lawsuit documents filed in Snohomish County Superior Court on Tuesday. The documents describe how she was driven to a remote site, ordered to strip and made to lie down in a shallow hole that would become her grave, as defendants repeatedly shot her in the head.
